To enhance project management skills,
- PMI offers educational seminars (Seminars World) on a wide range of topics to enhance knowledge and skills related to project management. These seminars are one to four days in length, are held throughout the year in various locations around the world. Members receive discounted registration for all seminars.
- PMI sponsors the Annual Seminars and Symposium, the world’s premiere project management event that includes technical paper presentations, high quality seminars and speakers and the opportunity to network with project managers from around the world. Members enjoy discounted registration fees.
- The PMI Communications Center is a medium where members can share in the exchange of information about the profession with peers and participate in discussion groups. Members can access the Communications Center by visiting the PMI web site.
To enhance a career,
- A copy of A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide)®, which has been approved by ANSI as an American National Standard, is issued to each new member on CD ROM, free of charge.
- Career Headquarters is a directory where members can post resumes and available positions on the PMI web site. The resume posting service is free and available to members only. The job posting service is available to members at a discounted rate (half price).
To learn more about project management and keep abreast of trends and the continuously expanding body of knowledge,
- Members receive periodical publications as part of membership. PM Network is a monthly magazine written for professionals involved in projects of all types across all industries. The Project Management Journal is a quarterly publication that outlines the practices of the world’s top project management professionals. PMI Today provides members with important news and updates from PMI Headquarters.
- PMI is the world’s leading publisher of project management information. Professional and technical books, CD ROMs and other business management products are available through PMI. All books are available to PMI members at a discounted rate.
To establish professional credentials and obtain certification in project management,
- Only PMI offers the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. The certification exam is offered to members at a discounted rate.
- Certificates of Added Qualification (CAQ) are being developed to offer additional certification in industry-based areas for already established Project Management Professionals.
To network with others/ affiliate with others who do the same type of work,
- PMI members can choose to become a member of a Chapter, Specific Interest Group (SIG) or College. Chapter membership is geographic in nature and gives members the opportunity to network with peers within the local community. SIGs give members access to project management professionals in the same industry or area of interest. Membership in a College allows for worldwide knowledge-based networking.
To be at the forefront of project management information,
- PMI Components offer their members many opportunities to assume leadership roles. These leaders have the advantage of being at the forefront of information regarding the Institute’s new programs, initiatives and communications. It also provides members with an opportunity to give back to the organization and the profession.

- PMI sponsors awards to recognize excellence in the practice and contributions to the profession of project management. Awards recognize projects, individuals and volunteer contributions in project management.
- PMI, the Educational Foundation and the membership are constantly working to build recognition for project management professionals and project management as a profession. As a member, you can both assist with and benefit from these efforts.
